This moment was captured at Devtaal, a pristine high-altitude lake located near Mana Pass in Chamoli district, Uttarakhand, just a few kilometers from the Indo–China border. Perched at an awe-inspiring 5,600 meters (18,372 ft) above sea level, it stands among the highest accessible points on Earth.Reaching here is a journey in itself — Mana Pass lies beyond Mana Village, the last inhabited village of India, and is a route patrolled by the Indian Army due to its strategic importance. Oxygen levels here drop to nearly 50% of normal, making every step feel heavier, every breath more precious.
Name ‘Devtaal’ translates to ‘Lake of the Gods’, and standing before it, you understand why. Surrounded by towering snow-covered peaks and glacial winds, the lake reflects the un touched beauty of the Himalaya. Just beyond these mountains lies Tibet (China), making this a meeting point of cultures, landscapes, and histories. In my hand rests a crystal-white piece of snow, a tiny fragment of this vast frozen kingdom. Behind it, the majestic Himalayan slopes rise into the deep blue sky. This isn’t just a photograph it’s a moment where Earth’s rooftop meets the palm of my hand where nature, solitude, and a sense of eternity come together in perfect harmony.
