Captured in my village Gangi, Tehri Garhwal, Uttarakhand perched at an altitude of about 2,600 meters (8,530 ft) in the lap of the Himalayas.
This photograph shows the incredible strength and dedication of our village women, carrying heavy baskets of dry leaves. These leaves, collected from the surrounding forests, are vital for livestock feed and fuel during the harsh mountain winters.
Their colorful woolens, traditional jewelry, and resilient eyes tell the story of generations that have lived in harmony with nature, depending on its resources yet respecting its limits.
Gangi isn’t just a place; it’s a testament to mountain courage. And these women are its beating heart silent warriors of the Himalayas whose strength keeps the village alive.
